Reasearch on Portraits

Self-Portraits by Luca Pierro

I found Luca Pierro work interesting because his ideas of medium that he uses in his work gave me ides on what to work on, on my own self portraits. “The works of Luca Pierro express a micro and macro cosmos, where the figure of the artist, who is also the one who photographs, forcefully enters the scene. The protagonist of the portraits is the same photographer. There are shots in his intent to escape the “already seen” to “already done”. He explores new and unspoiled paths, from the point of origin of man himself, with the use of natural elements such as: flour, land, water, clay and so on. All elements that lead back to “Mother Earth”.

For the artist is important the traceability of the material used to leave on the surfaces portrayed. The body becomes the vehicle of expression. The artist undermines the concept of traditional portrait (beautiful) to introduce viewers to new dynamics. Offers us portraits full of meanings, sometimes with a strong provocation. Some of them put us in touch with the contemporary research in experimental theater. So the artist is able to establish with the viewer an involvement immediate and spontaneous.”

Experimentation #3

Image through wet glass,...............................................................

On this experimentation I was influences by Vin Rathod with his series "Photographs or Paintings?"

The abstract pictures were taken through a fountain / water-wall at the Arts Centre in Melbourne and Vin explains that they “seem like memories of childhood – a bit blurry but still vivid and colourful.”

My Photos.....................

This image show how I created my photos. I sprayed water on the glass this is to create the abstract effect that Vin Rathod show's through his photos. But as we see through my experiments did not work very well but I still like the out come of my experiment.

So on this experiment, the water technique to create the abstract look is showing, but its not showing strongly as hoped it would, but I don't think of it as a bad outcome. I like the effect that the water droppling created on the photo. The way I edited the photos was another positive also had a good outcome. Over all I think I did well on this experiment I really like my out come. I'm thinking of extending my idea of using wet glass in my next experiment.

Experimentation #2

Doodle Photos.........................................

This experimentation was a random idea, I thought it would be a fun experiment to do with my little sisters.

Experimentation

Print on glass...

I was thinking of using the gel medium to get my images on the glass...

1) So on these images I've covered the glass with the gel medium, I used a random photocopy image of a bird just for experiment.

 2) These photos were taken after I apply the gel medium on the image and I have paste it on the surface, which is the glass.

3) On these photos it shows how I started taking the paper off, by rubbing it off gently with a damp rag. At this stage I was not sure if the image was going to turn out right.

4) These photos show my outcome on this experiment, didn't really turn out the way I wanted. The image easily came off the glass. I think it was because I used the medium gel for the base. I think if I didn't use the gel medium as base the image would've paste on the glass properly. I think I'm going to try screen printing the image on glass.

“Photographs or Paintings?” Series by Vin Rathod

Interesting series of photos by Vin Rathod, an award-winning photographer based in Sydney.
The abstract pictures were taken through a fountain / water-wall at the Arts Centre in Melbourne and Vin explains that they “seem like memories of childhood – a bit blurry but still vivid and colourful.”

I found Vin Rathod work interesting, I think this was a smart and easier way to take abstract photos. I think I might work with his idea and experiment his way of photography but I will add on my own flavor....
